BCTV is offering an opportunity for volunteers to support Byron Center and South Christian high school athletes by announcing games on TV.
Announcers are needed for tennis, soccer, baseball, softball and lacrosse. No experience is necessary.
If announcing games for TV sounds like fun, but maybe a little nerve-wracking, there’s nothing to worry about.
Anna VanderLaan, Production Manager at BCTV explains:
We have had many first-timers who were nervous at the start but once they hopped on the mic they warmed right up to it. It is a low pressure kind of thing, we want to make sure people enjoy it and have fun.
It’s very easy to get started as a volunteer at BCTV. No experience is required and no training is needed, however, announcers are fully supported by BCTV staff. Volunteer announcers are given rosters and information on sponsors. Announcers will also hear from producers through their headset during the game.
There is no minimum or maximum number of games for volunteering. Some past announcers have volunteered for one game, while others have been participating for years. You are also allowed to volunteer individually or with a partner.
This spring’s sports broadcast schedule begins on Tuesday, April 11, with Byron Center High School Girls Varsity Tennis. The volunteer schedule shows what’s coming up. Volunteers are also needed for the crew including camera operators, studio control, graphics and audio.
